THANK YOU PARTICIPANTS | MPAC: SAFE SPACES TRAINING

unnamed-5

JazakAllah Khair to all that attended the MPAC: Safe Spaces Training at the Islamic Society of Central NY! There were over 22 people in attendance and different communities across CNY were represented including, Masjid Isa Ibn Maryam, North Side Learning Center, Nas Learning Center (NLC) and Syracuse Cultural Center (SCC). We are so proud and appreciative that the Youth Activities Council (YAC) took the initiative to connect with the Muslim Public Affairs Council and handled ALL the details of organizing this program for the community. Much was learned in our day long training with facilitator Mustafa Allahrakha, who took the group point by point through the MPAC: Prevention and Intervention (PI) model. The full PI Toolkit pdf. can be found here.

We have been charged with specific tasks (with benchmark dates) to use our new knowledge and training to create the following:

  • SAFE SPACES: Open dialogue forum
Create spaces and opportunities that cultivate open dialogue regarding difficult/taboo topics.
  • COMMUNITY RESPONSE TEAM (CRT)
Create a Community Response Team (CRT) to effectively  help individuals exhibiting at risk behaviors or exhibiting behavior that denote a risk of harm to themselves or others.
  • PARENT SUPPORT GROUP
We are tasked with creating a Parent Support group that will identify issues parents are dealing with and develop programming to address identified areas of concern.
