During the holy season of Ramadan, which began on June 5 and ends this evening, InterFaith Works and its Round Table of Faith Leaders, in collaboration with the New York State Council of Churches, offered faith organizations and individual community members the opportunity to display a lawn sign that wished our Muslim friends a Blessed Ramadan.

The project was well received, as 75 signs were distributed to supportive, enthusiastic faith communities and individuals within just a few days. Sign displays and stories were posted and shared on social media by participants, and a photo of the Blessed Ramadan sign appeared in a news posting on Syracuse.com.
Evelyn Kennenwood, a member of the Syracuse Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (Quaker) faith community, shared a wonderful story about the impact her Blessed Ramadan display sign had in her neighborhood.

The Islamic Society of Central New York would like to extend our appreciation and sincere thanks to everyone in the interfaith community that attended our annual Community Wide InterFaith Dinner June 15th.

We would also like to thank The InterFaith Works of Central New York and the Round Table of Faith Leaders for enjoining their congregations and the CNY community to extend the Muslim community a Blessed Ramadan via signage at their places of worship!!!

BLESSED RAMADAN CAMPAIGN
“It is no secret that we are living in a time when our Muslim neighbors are under critical scrutiny and are often viewed with great misunderstanding and hostility.

The call to generous hospitality invites us to counter this negativity. It seems
appropriate that those of us who know Muslims to be neighbors, colleagues and friends would act in a supportive and visible way in their direction.

As Muslims move into their holy season of Ramadan, InterFaith Works of Central New York and the Round Table of Faith Leaders, at the request of the New York State Council of Churches, is offering faith organizations and individuals the opportunity to display a lawn sign that wishes our Muslim friends a Blessed Ramadan.

The Steering Committee of the Round Table of Faith Leaders has made contact with many of the Muslim leaders of our community over the past few days, to find out if they would welcome such a show of friendship and support. Overwhelmingly, the response has been, “YES!”
